Fall Out Boy.

The Fall Out Boy juggernaut rolled into town last night and, at times, looked like flattening half of London in its wake. Whatever your view is on the burgeoning emo scene, you would have to be tone deaf not to appreciate the melodious racket that this Chicago quartet make. But while the band is often held up as being the standard bearers of the emo genre, it is a status that seems to cause them some discomfort. Thriller, the opening track from new album Infinity On High, captures this sense of being thrust reluctantly into the spotlight superbly. 'Last summer we took threes across the board/But by fall we were a cover story now in stores/Make us poster boys for your scene/But we are not making an acceptance speech,' intones singer Patrick Stump. It can be easy to forget that Stump is the voice behind much of FOB’s material, as bassist Pete Wentz is the focus of the media attention on the band, not to mention the pretty pin-up boy. Stump barely interacted with the crowd, choosing instead to concentrate on what was an excellent vocal performance, while Wentz had the front row swooning every time he waved at them. Set-opener Our Lawyer Made Us Change The Name Of This Song So We Wouldn’t Get Sued set the tone for the evening, with the lyrics warning that liking FOB is 'not worth the hearing you’ll lose', predicting the ringing ears at the end of the night.
